About Ooty

Ooty also known as Udhagamandalam or Udhagai is a beautiful hill station and one of the best tourist spots in India. Located in the Nilgiris district of Tamilnadu, Ooty weather is extremely pleasant which ranges from 15°C to 20°C most of the time and dropping to 0°C during winter. With its landscape completely covered with tea estates and eucaplyptus trees, Ooty is a Green carpet on the Blue Mountains. The green landscape with smoky clouds creates a pleasant atmosphere, drawing huge number of trourists every day. During British colonial days Ooty was their summer and weekend getaway. There are plenty of attractions to visit in and Ooty like Botanical Garden, Ooty Lake, Pykara, Doddabetta, Rose Garden, Avalanche, Mudumalai etc.

Climate in Ooty

Ooty features mild and pleasant climate throughout the year in contrast with the other parts of Tamilnadu. The climate is very pleasant during summer making it heavily crowded by tourists during April and May. During winter ooty is very cold, especially in the night. The average high temperature ranges from about 17°C to 20°C . The highest temperature ever recorded in Ooty was 25°C (77°F). The average low temperature ranges from 5°C to 12°C. The rainy season in Ooty is generally very cool and windy with high humidity.

Ooty is one of the most visited hill station in India. There are plenty of festivals to enjoy the nature in Ooty especially the flower show, fruits show and boat race. Best time to visit Ooty

Ooty temperature is pleasant throughout the year. Ooty is more enjoyable in summer but is over crowded. During winter it is extremely cold in Ooty, but less crowded. The best months to visit Ooty are:

March to June (Summer) and
November to February (Winter)

  • Ooty is famous for tea. You can sip and enjoy Ooty tea whenever possible. You can also visit a tea plantation or a tea factory.
  • Horse riding is popular here. Go for horse riding.
  • Don't miss the ride on Ooty toy train. You can travel close to the moutanins and experience the heavenly atmosphere.
  • Mudumalai National park and wildlife sanctuary is only 30Km from Ooty. It takes around 1 hour to reach the place.
  • There are some shooting spots called 9th mile and 6th mile. A must see in Ooty
  • Ooty is famous for fresh carrots, you can see many selling carrots on the tourist spots. There are so many other things you can buy like tea, home made chocolates, sweaters, nuts, dry fruits, Ooty Varkee, spices, eucalyptus oil etc.
